25 BOOKS: A Quarter Century Collection

The Context

Founded in 1996, and now with over 170 locations, Indigo operates as Canada’s primary big-box bookstore and lifestyle retail destination. They invited Wedge to creative direct and design a special collection of 25 books to celebrate their 25th anniversary in collaboration with Harper Collins, Penguin, and other noteable publishers.. The collection featured titles such as The Handmaid’s Tale, Sapiens, The English Patient, An Astronaut’s Guide To Life on Earth, and more.

The Insight

Historically, Indigo brought books, new perspectives, and creativity, into people’s homes.

The Big Idea & Success

Create a collectable, covetable, and zeitgeist-worthy collection of books by pairing the works of 25 iconic authors with emerging and established Canadian painters.

Our team curated a diverse roster of artists, pairing their works with titles based on shared subjects, themes, and cultural ties.

Artworks are framed by 3 distinct shapes that represent genres and that act as “windows into a story.” And the entire collection is united by a spine that feature’s that brands signature Indigo Blue.

The limited-edition collection launched in Fall 2022 in Indigo stores and online. The project drew the attention of international design press, and stands out as the rare retail anniversary collection item.
